- Work from right to left.
- Bring needle up from the back of the material at point 1 and back down at 2.
- Move left and bring needle up at point 3, then back down at 1.
- Continue stitching.
- Work from left to right.
- Bring needle up from back side of the material at point 1.
- Bring needle down at 2 and up at 3, keeping the thread looped under the needle.
- Pull thread through.
- Repeat multiple stitches until complete.
- Work from right to left.
- Bring needle up from the back side of the material at point 1.
- Reinsert needle in the same hole, forming a loop.
- Bring needle up at point 2 and inside the loop.
- Pull thread to tighten loop.
- Repeat multiple stitches to create a chain.
- To end the row, make a small straight stitch over the last loop to tack it in place.
Single chain stitches where individual loops are detached instead of connecting.
- Come up from the back of the fabric at point 1 and down in the same hole or right next to point 1, forming a loop on the front side of the material.
- Bring needle up at point 2 and through the inside of the loop.
- Pull loop into desired shape, pulling tighter creates a straighter looking stitch, while a looser thread creates a more rounded loop.
- Bring the needle down just outside the loop near to point 2 making a small straight stitch that tacks the loop into place.
- Lay the foundation thread by making one long straight stitch, up at point 1 and down at 2.
- Bring the couching thread up near the foundation thread at A, and make a short stitch over the thread, down at B.
- Continue making stitches over the foundation thread to anchor it in place.
- Bring needle up from back side of material at point 1 and then down at 2.
- Repeat coming up at 3 and down at 4 to make an X.
- Bring needle up from back side of material at point 1 and then down at 2.
- Repeat coming up at 3 and down at 4 to make an X.
- Make a double cross stitch by overlaying a second cross stitch on top of the first.
- Work from top to bottom.
- Bring needle up from back of material at point1.
- Bring needle down at point 2, leaving a loop.
- Come back up at point 3, inside the loop.
- With the needle over the loop, pull the thread taut.
- Move down and repeat, making a line of V-shaped stitches.
- Tack down the last V with a small straight stitch.
- To make single Fly Stitches tack down each V separately.
- Bring needle up from the back side of the material at the place where you will make the knot.
- Wrap the thread around the end of the needle 2 or 3 times.
- Pull the thread so that the wrapped threads are taut.
- Insert the needle into the top of the material next to the original hole.
- Pull thread through the material until the knot is formed and is snug.
- Work from left to right.
- Bring the needle up from the back of the fabric at point 1 and then down at point 2.
- Bring the needle up again at point 3 and down at 4.
- Bring needle up from the back again at 5.
- Continue making a line of stitches following the same pattern.
- Work from left to right.
- Bring thread up from the back of the material at point 1 then down at 2.
- Continue up at 3 and down at 4 and so forth.
- Stitch length and spacing can be even or varied for a different look
- Bring needle up from back side of material at point 1.
- Then bring needle back up again right next to point 1.
- And down again right next to point 2.
- Continue, placing stitches closely together to fill in area.
- Keep the material flat and don’t pull the thread too tightly.
- The thread should lay flat to create a smooth look.
- Make two small straight stitches alongside each other.
- Come up from the back side of the fabric at point 1 and down again at point 2.
- Come back up at point 3 and down again at point 4.
- Continue making pairs of parallel stitches randomly to fill an area.
- Find the center point of the star (point 2) and make a small hole in the fabric by wiggling the needle back and forth.
- Bring the needle up from back of the fabric at point 1 and then down in the center through the hole at point 2.
- Bring the needle up from the back at point 3 and down at the center at 2.
- Continue stitching in a clockwise direction until you have several evenly placed stitches to create a star.
